Conference 'Emotional modulation in Barcelona's urban stress: How urban stress shapes our health and wellbeing'

Wednesday Jun 3, 2026 · Centre Cívic Can Deu

By Francisco Madrid-Gambín, researcher in biomedicine and health at the Research Institute of the Hospital del Mar.

In the neighborhoods of Barcelona we live surrounded by a changing urbanism, but we rarely think about how the urban spaces we inhabit influence our body and our mind. In this informative talk we explore, from biomedical science and neuroscience, how urban factors such as urban planning, noise, pollution and the design of green spaces (superislands) affect the nervous system, the hormonal system, the level of stress and our emotions in general. Through everyday examples and recent scientific evidence, the conference proposes an integrative look where urban pollution and the creation of green areas affect more than we imagine.
